The weight of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) hangs heavily over our communities, and the statistics in the O.R. Tambo District remain devastatingly high.
Every number represents a broken home, a stolen life, and a wound in our society that runs incredibly deep. We cannot afford to look away.

In a powerful response to this crisis, women leaders from across government departments, traditional leadership, SAPS, and civil society gathered today at the Savoy Hotel for a critical Women in Leadership Seminar and GBVF Awareness Campaign.
Under the vital theme—”When Women Lead: Breaking Barriers, Healing Wounds, and Creating Safe Spaces”—this seminar served as a dedicated, sacred platform for women in leadership to address institutional barriers, reflect honestly on deep societal wounds, and strengthen support systems.

Chairing the seminar, MMC for Community Services, Cllr Nontyatyambo Gcingca emphasised the importance of prioritising women’s safety, highlighting the concerning prevalence of GBVF in the O.R. Tambo District and the need for collective action to address this challenge.
The energy in the room today reflects a shared commitment to step up, speak out, and advance genuinely safe spaces. It is time to heal our district, stop the violence, and rewrite the future for every woman and child in O.R. Tambo.
Let it be known boldly and without compromise: the O.R. Tambo District Municipality stands firmly against GBVF. We declare that NO IS NO, and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! 🚫✋
